Founded in 2006, The Mission Coffeehouse at First Lutheran Church is a non-profit coffeehouse dedicated to changing the world one cup of coffee at a time. This goal is accomplished in several ways.

First, the Mission Coffeehouse is a proud purveyor of Fair Trade coffees and teas that allow producers in developing countries to earn a fair wage for their products. On average, farmers who participate in Fair Trade cooperatives earn 3-5 times the amount earned by those selling their products through conventional markets.

Second, each month our tip jar proceeds are directed to local or global missions. Due to the remarkable generosity of our patrons, the Mission Coffeehouse distributed over $25,000 in tip jar donations during the first four years of operation to organizations such as the Brookings Backpack Project and Smile Train.
In addition, the Mission Coffeehouse offers a relaxed, positive environment for members of the congregation and community to reap the benefits of volunteering. By utilizing the time and talents of volunteers, the Mission Coffeehouse also minimizes payroll expenses thus increasing mission support.

Finally, the Mission Coffeehouse serves as a gathering place for members of the congregation and community alike. Each week, the Mission Coffeehouse and its associated spaces are utilized by individuals and groups of all ages seeking a welcoming environment for meetings, fellowship, studying and a wide variety of other events that impact the world by building a stronger community.

By making the simple decision to enjoy a delicious cup of coffee or a hearty sandwich and soup lunch at the Mission Coffeehouse, our customers are positively impacting the world. Who knew a cup of coffee could make such a difference!
